Assistive Technology Accommodations
Use of assistive technology allows access to information for students with various disabilities. Below is a list of common assistive technologies which students may need to when taking tests. As all academic areas on campus may not have the specific technology a student requires, Testing Services is available to assist faculty with proctoring needs.
Computer with Assistive Software
Students who encounter barriers to the activities of writing, reading, or using a computer, may need specialized software and/or hardware in order to remove these barriers.
Accommodations which may appear on a students letter:
- Computer with assistive software - Screen-reading software
- Computer with assistive software - Speech recognition software
- Computer with assistive software (or reader)
- Computer with assistive software (or scribe/typist) - no tools*
- Computer with assistive software (or scribe/typist) - writing - with editing tools**
Computer with Word Processor
Assistive technology does not always mean that specialized software or hardware is required. For students who encounter barriers to the mechanics of writing, use of a word processor removes the barrier.
Accommodations which may appear on a students letter:
- Computer with word processor - no editing tools*
- Computer with word processor - with editing tools**
